Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has faulted terror attacks on a military base and Internally-Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Ngoshe community, Gwoza LGA of Borno State, describing act as trembling.
Recall that more than 100 women and children were reportedly kidnapped in the operation.
Recall that suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists reportedly killed some soldiers, the chief imam of the town and some community elders during the attack which occurred shortly after Muslims broke their fast on Wednesday.
The assailants were said to have first attacked the military base belonging to the 82 Division Task Force Battalion before wreaking havoc in the community and IDP camp.
In a Friday statement he personally signed, Atiku described the attacks as “deeply troubling”.
He faulted the federal government over alleged indifference to the incident and preceding ones.
According to him, “The upsurge in violence and killings have become so widespread across the country that both government and society seem to have grown numb to the bloodshed resulting from these assaults.
“It is unfortunate that the current federal government appears to be losing its grip on the fight against terrorism and violent attacks.
“Instead, it seems more focused on unleashing intense pressure against political opponents and enabling self-serving ethnic militia groups”.
“It is disheartening that those responsible for internal security, along with the elite of the ruling party, remain preoccupied with consolidating power, while vulnerable civilians and servicemen are being killed.”
While sympathising with the families of the victims, Atiku added, “I must express strong indignation at the government’s evident lack of empathy towards the victims of these increasingly frequent assaults.”
