has written to the Nigerian Senate requesting the screening and confirmation of Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite.
The letter was read during plenary on Tuesday by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Mr Oyedele, 50, hails from Ikaram, Akoko in Ondo State, Nigeria. Before his nomination, he chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, which led a major overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system.
An economist, accountant, and public policy expert, Oyedele holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He has also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, rising to Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
In addition, President Tinubu has nominated Senator Magnus Abe for confirmation as chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), following the resignation of Gbenga Komolafe.
Other nominees awaiting Senate screening include Engineer Paul Yaro Jezhi, a former Trade Union Congress chairman from Kaduna State, and Mr Sunday Adebayo Babalola, a former deputy director at the defunct Department of Petroleum Resources, both proposed as non-executive commissioners.
The Senate President referred all nominations to the Senate Committee on Petroleum Upstream for further consideration.
