Nigerians Frustrated With Current Situation, Seeking Change Ahead of 2027 — Dickson

Former Governor of Bayelsa State Seriake Dickson has said growing frustration among Nigerians over the state of the country could shape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dickson, who currently represents Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, made the remarks on Monday in Abuja during the unveiling of the digital membership registration portal of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

According to the former governor, many Nigerians are dissatisfied with the present situation in the country and are searching for credible political alternatives as the next general election approaches.

“Nigerians are angry with the status quo. Nigerians are not only angry, they are also hungry, and they are hungry for change. The NDC is available as the tool for effecting the change Nigerians want,” he said.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by the party’s national leadership, including the National Chairman, Cleopas Moses, and the National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, alongside state chairmen and other stakeholders.

Dickson described the party as a new political movement focused on ideological politics and national development, adding that it intends to provide Nigerians with a credible platform free from the crises that have plagued some established parties.

Using a biblical analogy, the senator compared the emergence of the party to the story of Noah and his ark, urging Nigerians seeking genuine political change to align with the new platform early.

“The NDC in Nigeria of today, politically, is like Noah’s family. Those who can see the signs should come on board early,” he said.

He also noted that the launch of the digital membership portal was aimed at modernising the party’s structure and making it easier for Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora, to participate in its activities.

According to him, although the party is only a few weeks old, it has already begun attracting attention and support from across the country, with political operatives coordinating activities at state, local government and ward levels.

“We are a national party. We are a pan-Nigerian democratic movement. We are not a regional movement,” Dickson added.

Also speaking at the event, the party’s National Chairman, Cleopas Moses, said the introduction of the digital membership platform would simplify the registration process and help expand the party’s grassroots presence nationwide.

The development comes shortly after Dickson announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, citing deepening internal crises and leadership challenges within the opposition party.

The Bayelsa senator had earlier made the announcement during a press conference in Abuja, where he expressed concern over what he described as the declining state of the PDP, a party that once dominated Nigeria’s political landscape.
