Lucky Obukohwo, Reporting

A Benin based human rights activist, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbidi has declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Esan Central, Esan West, and Igueben Federal Constituency on the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Ogbidi who is the President, Network of Civil Society Organisations of Nigeria (NOCSON), also said that the promise of 2.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the Edo State governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo in the forthcoming 2027 election was now Illusionary as such promise has become not obtainable with the emergence of the NDC.

He made the declaration while speaking with journalists in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

According to him,” The promise of 2.5 million votes by the Edo State governor Senator Monday Okpebholo for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reelection bid in the general election in 2027 has become Illusionary but unattainable with the emergence of NDC, the fastest growing political party in Africa, and partly due to the high level of suffering as a result of the economic hardship in the land coupled with the unprecedented insecurity in the country.

” The NDC will clinch 75% of the total votes in the coming general election while the remaining 25% would be shared by the All Progressives Congress ( APC) and the other political parties in the election.

Continuing, the human rights activist said Edo people should know that a new party, the fastest growing political party in Africa as it is today, has emerged, which is the Nigeria Democratic Congress, (NDC), under the able leadership of the national leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, and the National chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe.

“We have come to clearly state and bring to reality that since the emergence of NDC in the Edo state that the 2.5 million votes as promised Mr. President has been reduced to just 25% votes for him and other political parties in Edo state.

“As God-fearing politicians who are not heartless, we choose to at least make available just that number for him and other political parties in the state.

“I am here to intimate the good people of Esan Central, Esan West, and Igueben Federal constituency and Edo state people that Nigeria Democratic Congress, (NDC), the fastest growing political party in Africa has emerged, under the able leadership of the national leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, the national chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, our able state chairman Engineer David Olukoga, not forgetting our state leader, High Chief Don Ojeme.

“And we have decided to show what it means to serve the people, what it means to deliver the dividends of democracy, what it means to deliver effective and pragmatic representation, what it means to deliver radical representation and competent oversight to checkmating the executive and also to draw the attention of the federal governments to our constituency.

“So today, we are very much aware that the Edo people are happy, the good people of Esan Central, West and Igueben federal constituency are happy because a new light has come and a new dawn has come since the emergence of NDC and the aspiration of my humble self and all the very well-notable and seasoned aspirants that are aspiring under this platform.

“And the emergence of this movement is a direct quit notice to the current occupants of Aso Rock today. And that is why even with 31 governors, because they have lost one yesterday, they are still not settled. They are still jittering.

“And we have decided to show what it means to serve the people, what it means to deliver the dividend of democracy, what it means to deliver effective and pragmatic representation, what it means to deliver radical representation and competent oversight to checkmating the executive and also to draw the attention of the federal governments to our constituency.

“So today we are very much aware that the Edo p
