Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has responded strongly to allegations made by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose concerning recent kidnapping incidents in Oyo State, urging Nigerians to pray for the former governor rather than engage with what he described as unfounded remarks.
The governor’s position was conveyed on Tuesday through the state Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade. According to the commissioner, Makinde is concentrating his efforts on addressing security concerns and securing the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers, rather than engaging in political disputes.
Oyelade criticized Fayose’s comments, describing them as misleading and harmful at a time when security agencies are working to resolve a sensitive situation. He argued that making controversial claims about ongoing rescue operations could distract authorities and potentially worsen the circumstances surrounding those still in captivity.
The commissioner further stated that the governor remains committed to finding lasting solutions to insecurity in the state and is focused on supporting affected families.
The exchange follows comments made by Fayose during a television interview, where he questioned the state government’s handling of a recent school abduction in Oriire Local Government Area. Fayose also suggested that the incident may have been politically motivated, a claim he did not substantiate with evidence.
In response, the Oyo State Government dismissed the allegations and appealed to residents to remain calm while security agencies continue efforts to rescue the victims and restore normalcy.
State officials reiterated that the administration is working continuously with relevant authorities to ensure the safe return of those abducted and to strengthen security across affected communities.
