Mali Attack Claims Two UN Peacekeepers Lives, Many Others Wounded

Two United Nations peacekeepers were killed and five others severely wounded by an improvised explosive device in northern Mali, the UN peacekeeping mission said.

The incident took place between the village of Tessalit and the city of Gao on Tuesday, Olivier Salgado, spokesman for United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), said in a tweet.

The UN peacekeeping mission have said that two United Nations peacemakers were killed and five others critically wounded in northern Mali by an improvised explosive device.

In a tweet by the spokesman for United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), Olivier Salgado, the gory incident happened between the village of Tessalit and the city of Gao on Tuesday.

According to Aljazeera, 132 civilians were killed in the villages of Diallassagou, Diaweli and Dessagou, in Mali’s central Mopti region last month.

Despite the presence of foreign troops and UN peacekeepers, the rebels, some with links to al-Qaeda and the ISIL (ISIS) group, have gained ground and gathered momentum in the region.

Thousands have been killed and millions displaced by the conflict in the Sahel region south of the Sahara.
