Nigeria mourns the loss of Professor Ben Nwabueze, a distinguished Constitutional lawyer and former Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, who passed away at the age of 92 in his home on a Sunday evening, as reported by close sources.
Professor Nwabueze’s legacy in the realm of constitutional law remains unparalleled in the English-speaking world. Anambra State, in particular, celebrates his continued vitality and profound intellectual contributions even at the age of 90. His eloquent and logical writings are beyond compare.
Late Professor Nwabueze had an extensive literary output, including over 30 books and more than 100 academic articles. Notably, he achieved the remarkable feat of receiving a PhD from the University of London, following his bachelor’s degree in law with distinction, all due to his globally influential publications, particularly his third book on the presidential system of government in Africa.
Professor Nwabueze’s distinction extends to being Nigeria’s first academic to be honored with the prestigious title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
His contributions extended beyond Nigeria, as he collaborated with various organizations and notable figures to advance constitutional development, even influencing nations like Ethiopia.
In the wake of his passing, Nigeria acknowledges the immense void left by the departure of this legal luminary and constitutional thinker.
