Abimbola Olugbenga has officially taken over as the 49th Commissioner of Police in Oyo State.
He succeeds Olufemi Haruna, who served as the 48th Commissioner of Police from April 1, 2025.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
Olugbenga, described as a seasoned and accomplished officer, joined the Nigeria Police Force on June 10, 1994, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. Since then, he has built a distinguished career spanning multiple states and key operational units.
A graduate of Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, he has also undergone extensive professional training at the Police Staff College, Jos; Police College, Kaduna; and the National Institute of Police Studies, Abuja.
Over the years, he has served in various operational, investigative, and administrative roles across Lagos, Abia, Delta, Borno, Kano, Yobe, Oyo, Kogi, and Bauchi states.
His previous assignments include Divisional Police Officer in several divisions in Delta State, Police Component Commander under Operation Lafiya Dole in Borno State, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Oyo State, Deputy Commissioner of Police at the Safer Highway Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja, and Commissioner of Police in charge of Special Weapons and Tactics at the Force Headquarters.
The command noted that his career has been marked by proactive policing, strategic crime prevention, and effective leadership, earning him several commendations for professionalism and dedication.
It expressed confidence that under his leadership, security of lives and property in Oyo State will be strengthened, while public trust in policing will be further enhanced.
