The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has opted for a consensus approach in selecting its flagbearers for the forthcoming August 16 National Assembly by-elections, signaling a united front as the party gears up to reclaim strategic legislative positions.
In a move widely praised by party stalwarts for promoting unity and internal harmony, the APC leadership on Monday officially adopted Hon. Joseph Ikpea as its consensus candidate for the Edo Central Senatorial District. Ikpea, a former commissioner and respected grassroots politician, was unanimously endorsed by party leaders and stakeholders across the five local government areas of the senatorial zone.
Similarly, the influential Barr. Omosede Igbinedion, a former House of Representatives member and scion of the Igbinedion political dynasty, has been adopted as the consensus candidate for the Ovia Federal Constituency seat. Her return bid was endorsed after extensive consultations and alignment among local APC leaders and support groups.
The by-election, scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for August 16, is expected to fill the vacant seats following the resignation of former occupants.
