Tinubu Appoints Segun Aina as JAMB Registrar

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Aina will replace Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second term is expected to end on 31 July 2026.

In a statement issued by the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, Aina was described as a “distinguished academic and systems expert” with experience in examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public sector reform.

According to the statement, the new JAMB registrar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.

Aina is currently a professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

The presidency said he has over 15 years of post-graduation experience and has worked at the intersection of technology, policy, and institutional reform, advising government institutions on digital systems and operational efficiency.

He has also served as a consultant to examination bodies including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and several state education ministries.

“At 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest Computer Engineering professors and will now make history as JAMB’s youngest registrar,” Onanuga said.

The statement added that President Tinubu expects the new registrar to build on the achievements of his predecessor and further strengthen the integrity and efficiency of the examination body.

Aina is a member of several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

His appointment comes as JAMB continues to implement reforms aimed at improving examination processes and digital systems in Nigeria’s education sector.
