Bashir El-Rufai, a member House of Representatives and son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has issued a stark warning to the federal government, cautioning that arresting his father would be a significant blunder.

This statement comes in the wake of swirling rumors that the government might be planning to detain Nasir El-Rufai due to his ongoing friction with the current administration, which intensified after his ministerial nomination was rejected by the Senate.

In a post on the social media platform X, Bashir El-Rufai warned, “Na the biggest mistake Pablo Escobar & his henchmen will make.” While he did not explicitly mention President Bola Tinubu, the message was widely perceived as a critique of the president, fueled by historical controversies involving Tinubu’s alleged ties to a U.S. narcotics case in the 1990s. This case resulted in Tinubu forfeiting $460,000 to U.S. authorities, although he maintains he was never convicted of any crime.

The social media statement by Bashir has ignited significant discussion online, with many interpreting it as a sign of escalating tensions between the El-Rufai family and the current government. Critics and supporters alike have weighed in on the potential implications of such a move against Nasir El-Rufai, pointing to possible political retaliation for his outspoken criticisms of the administration’s policies and actions.

The situation has not only highlighted the political rifts within Nigeria but also raised questions about the use of governmental power in political vendettas. As the narrative unfolds, the public awaits further developments, keeping a keen eye on how this controversy might affect the political landscape in Nigeria.
