Morocco Name 26-Man World Cup Squad as Hakimi, Díaz Leads Charge

Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has named his 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with PSG captain Achraf Hakimi and Real Madrid attacking midfielder Brahim Díaz among the headline names.

Hakimi, the most experienced player in the squad with 95 caps, will serve as captain, while Díaz, goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, and Bilal El Khannouss round out the key figures in Ouahbi’s selection.

Hakimi arrives having won the 2025 Champions League with PSG and been named Africa’s best player, while Díaz carries the momentum of a standout AFCON campaign in which he finished as top scorer with five goals in five games.

Among the most notable omissions are striker Youssef En-Nesyri and playmaker Hakim Ziyech both joint third in Morocco’s all-time scoring charts despite En-Nesyri having featured in all seven of the Atlas Lions’ AFCON matches earlier this season.

One fresh face is uncapped Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, who earned his place after an impressive run of form in Ligue 1, following FIFA’s approval of his nationality switch from France on May 15.

Several players who were part of Morocco’s historic fourth-place run at the 2022 World Cup do return, including Bounou, Noussair Mazraoui, Sofyan Amrabat, Nayef Aguerd, Azzedine Ounahi, and El Khannouss.

Morocco face a daunting task in Group C, where they will meet Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti a draw widely considered one of the toughest in the tournament. Their opening match is against South American giants Brazil on June 13 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

With Hakimi’s leadership, Díaz’s creativity, and a squad blending World Cup experience with exciting new talent, the Atlas Lions will be hoping to once again surpass expectations on the world’s biggest football stage.
