Israel, Lebanon Agree to 10-day Ceasefire, Says Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire aimed at reducing tensions along their shared border.

The ceasefire, according to Mr Trump, is set to begin at 5 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, the U.S. president said he had held discussions with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, both of whom he said agreed to the temporary truce.

“I just had excellent conversations with the highly respected President Joseph Aoun of Lebanon and Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu of Israel,” he wrote. “They have agreed that in order to achieve peace between their countries, they will formally begin a 10-day ceasefire.”

Mr Trump also said he had instructed senior U.S. officials, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to work with both sides to help secure what he described as a “lasting peace.”

He added that he remained committed to resolving global conflicts, saying the agreement would mark what he called his “10th war solved,” although he did not provide details of the claim.

The announcement comes after recent diplomatic engagement in Washington between Israeli and Lebanese representatives — the first direct talks between the two countries in decades. Those discussions reportedly focused on easing tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border, particularly in relation to Hezbollah activity.

The United States has in recent weeks intensified diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing hostilities in the Middle East, amid broader regional tensions and fragile ceasefire arrangements involving other countries.

Following the announcement, a separate phone call reportedly took place between Mr Trump and Lebanese President Aoun. The Lebanese presidency said Mr Aoun welcomed the efforts and expressed hope for further progress toward de-escalation.

However, as of the time of the announcement, neither Israel nor Lebanon had issued detailed public confirmation of the terms of the ceasefire.
