Authorities in Libya have recovered at least 17 bodies believed to be migrants along the coastline near Zuwara, west of the capital, Tripoli, according to local medical officials.
The Emergency Medicine and Support Center said the bodies were found over several days and transported from the shoreline. Fourteen of the victims have since been buried in accordance with official procedures, while one individual, identified as a national of Bangladesh, was returned to family members in Tripoli. The identities of the remaining victims have not yet been confirmed.
Images released by the agency showed recovery teams handling the remains before transferring them for further processing.
Libya remains a key transit route for migrants attempting to reach Europe via the Mediterranean Sea, often undertaking dangerous journeys across desert regions and open waters. The route has seen persistent humanitarian concerns, particularly since instability intensified following the 2011 uprising that led to the removal of former leader Muammar Gaddafi.
Officials have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the latest deaths.
