A covert Ukrainian unit has reportedly carried out an attack on a Russian-linked oil tanker operating near Libya, in what officials describe as part of a broader effort to disrupt Moscow’s war financing network.
Truth Live News International learnt from the Independent that the vessel, identified as the Arctic Metagaz, was struck in early March in what is believed to be a sea drone operation. The tanker, carrying about 61,000 tonnes of liquefied natural gas, caught fire after the explosion and was left severely damaged, forcing the crew to evacuate.
Authorities say the ship is part of Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet”, vessels allegedly used to bypass international sanctions imposed over the war in Ukraine. The damaged tanker later drifted toward Libyan waters following the incident.
Although Ukrainian officials have not directly confirmed responsibility for the strike, Kyiv has consistently maintained that Russia’s oil exports play a critical role in funding its military operations, making such assets legitimate strategic targets.
Meanwhile, former CIA director David Petraeus said Russian forces no longer hold a clear advantage on the battlefield despite their numerical and economic strength. He noted that Ukrainian troops have continued to resist advances along key front lines.
The latest development comes amid escalating efforts by Ukraine to weaken Russia’s logistics and revenue streams, as the conflict continues with no immediate resolution in sight.
