Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and members of his faction have boycotted the official launch of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the party through which they were elected.
The presidential campaign in Uyo officially begins one week after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, opened the campaign window for 2023.
All eyes have been on the Wike camp, with many waiting to see if they would be a part of the kick-off after a series of entreaties from the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and other influential members.
However, the renewed optimism that seemed to have emerged in the last week that peace would reign and Wike and his camp would join the presidential campaign council was dashed today when Wike and his camp refused to join the Atiku presidential campaign launch in Uyo.
Truthlive.net can confirm that the reason for this is Wike and his camp’s insistence that Ayu must go and that unless he resigns, they will not participate in anything Atiku is doing.
Truthlive.net has learned that the governors of Abia State, Okozie Ikpeazu, and Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, are all missing from the ongoing campaign in Uyo.
Also absent were Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, and former governors of Ekiti, Cross River, Ondo, and Gombe states, Ayo Fayose, Donald Duke, Segun Mimiko, and Ibrahim Dankwambo.
Former Information Minister Jerry Gana, as well as many other former ministers from the party’s platform, have stayed away.
