The Nigerian Army on Wednesday laid to rest Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, Captain Ismail and other soldiers killed in a recent insurgent ambush in Borno State, honouring them with full military honours in a solemn and emotional ceremony.
The fallen officers and men were interred at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, just six days after suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters launched coordinated attacks on military positions in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area on April 9.
In a statement confirming the burial, the Army described the ceremony as a fitting tribute, conducted “in recognition of the soldiers’ service and sacrifice in the line of duty.”
Senior officials and dignitaries, including Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa, joined other top military officers at the graveside. The Army said the deceased were “patriots who paid the ultimate price in defence of the country.”
Prayers were offered for the repose of their souls as citations highlighting their service records were read aloud to grieving family members.
The Army noted that the loss “highlights the risks faced by personnel in ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East,” showing the continued dangers confronting troops in the region.
