The Chairman of Calabar Municipal Council, Apostle (Rt. Hon.) James Anam, has said the renovation of the Council Secretariat is aimed at improving public service delivery by providing a conducive working environment for staff and enhancing administrative efficiency.
Anam stated this on Wednesday while inspecting the renovated offices and Legislative Hall at the Council Secretariat before formally handing over the keys of the upgraded offices to the Vice Chairman, Pastor Okon Nyong, for immediate occupation.
The chairman said the project was undertaken to address years of infrastructural decay that had left offices and the Legislative Hall in poor condition, making them unsuitable for effective public administration.
“When we came in, this place was nothing to write home about. There were no decent offices and no conducive environment for our staff to work.
Today, by God’s grace and our commitment to the people, we have transformed the Secretariat into a workplace that reflects our vision for better governance,” Anam said.
He explained that the improved work environment is expected to enhance staff productivity, speed up administrative processes, and improve the quality of services delivered to residents of Calabar Municipality.

According to him, a functional Secretariat will enable council departments to operate more efficiently, facilitate better coordination among staff, and provide a more conducive atmosphere for residents seeking government services.
The chairman, however, did not state the cost of the renovation, the contractor that executed the project, or the number of offices renovated.
Vice Chairman Pastor Okon Nyong received the keys on behalf of the council administration and is expected to oversee the immediate use of the renovated facilities.
Some members of staff who witnessed the inspection welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the improved working environment would enhance efficiency and service delivery across departments.
The renovation forms part of the council’s ongoing efforts to rehabilitate public infrastructure and strengthen local government administration in Calabar Municipality.
However, as at the time of filling the report, the council did not indicate how many residents are expected to benefit directly from the upgraded facilities or provide measurable targets for improvements in service delivery.
