Abducted Oyo School Principal Rejects Reports of Ransom, Religious Demands

The abducted principal of Community High School in Ahoro-Esinle, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has dismissed reports that her captors demanded a ransom or attempted to impose religious conditions on victims.

Rachael Alamu made the clarification in a video circulating online on Monday and seen by Truthlive News, saying she was speaking out to correct what she described as misleading reports in the media.

She denied claims that the abductors demanded ₦1 billion, requested the release of certain individuals, or sought the introduction of Sharia law.

“These are not true. They are just trying to create problems for us,” she said.

Alamu said she and others had spent 24 days in captivity but insisted they had not been subjected to any form of religious pressure.

“We have not been forced to worship in an Islamic way. We have been left alone; they have not troubled us concerning that,” she said.

According to her, the only demand made by the abductors was the release of some of their associates.

“The single thing they are asking for is the release of some of their people,” she added.

The abduction of the victims occurred on 15 May when armed men attacked schools in Oriire Local Government Area near Ogbomoso and kidnapped about 39 pupils and seven teachers.

The incident triggered widespread outrage across Oyo State and renewed concerns about the safety of schools and learning environments.
