The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of planning to disrupt an opposition summit currently taking place in Ibadan.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the ADC said it had uncovered what it described as attempts by individuals linked to the APC to interfere with the meeting of opposition parties.
The party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the alleged plan followed earlier difficulties faced by organisers in securing a venue in Abuja.
“We have uncovered plans by the ruling APC to disrupt the summit being held by opposition parties in Ibadan today,” he said.
“After denying us the use of venues in Abuja, they now will not leave us alone to hold our meetings.”
Mr Abdullahi added that the party would proceed with the summit despite the concerns.
“They say they are not scared, but they are behaving like people who are terrified. But we will not be deterred, because we are on the side of the Nigerian people,” he said.
The APC has not responded to the allegations at the time of reporting.
The summit is part of ongoing efforts by opposition groups to coordinate political strategy, amid continuing rivalry between Nigeria’s ruling party and its challengers.
