In a surprising turn of events, Valentine Ozigbo, the former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2021 Anambra State election, has faced a significant defeat in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, mere weeks after his defection from the Labour Party (LP).

Truth Live News gathered that Ozigbo secured only 67 votes, while his opponent, Nicholas Ukachukwu, garnered a commanding 1,455 votes.

Ozigbo’s political trajectory has been notably dynamic. After his unsuccessful bid with the PDP in 2021, where he lost to Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ozigbo joined the LP in August 2022 to support Peter Obi’s presidential campaign. However, by February 2025, he had resigned from the LP, citing a commitment to a “greater vision for Anambra State,” and promptly joined the APC.

The LP did not take Ozigbo’s departure lightly. Obiora Ifoh, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, accused him of betrayal and attempting to undermine the party. Ifoh highlighted that Ozigbo had been a “nominal member” who contributed little to the party’s growth and was primarily driven by personal ambition.

Upon his entry into the APC, Ozigbo was warmly received at his ward in Amesi, Aguata Local Government Area. He articulated his vision for Anambra, emphasizing his commitment to progressive governance and economic development. Chidi Muokwe, the APC Ward Chairman, described Ozigbo as “the light in the darkness” that Anambra needs.

Despite the enthusiastic reception, the APC primaries presented a formidable challenge for Ozigbo. His opponent, Nicholas Ukachukwu, secured a decisive victory with 1,455 votes, overshadowing Ozigbo’s 67 votes. The primaries were further marked by the withdrawal of other notable aspirants, including Obiora Okonkwo, Paul Chukwuma, and Chukwuma Umeoji, just hours before the contest.

This defeat raises questions about Ozigbo’s political strategy and future prospects. His rapid transitions between parties and the recent electoral setback may prompt a period of reflection and recalibration. Whether he will remain with the APC or chart a new course remains to be seen.
