Real Madrid has reportedly set its sights on acquiring Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The 25-year-old could potentially become the first departure from Liverpool in the post-Jurgen Klopp era, with Los Blancos closely monitoring his situation at the Premier League outfit.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, as cited by Football365, there have been no ongoing contract discussions between Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold, despite his current contract expiring in the summer of 2025.
Romano stated: “We know Trent Alexander-Arnold is a pivotal player for Liverpool, but how probable is a contract extension amid Real Madrid’s interest?
“Real Madrid is now interested, closely observing the situation, although there hasn’t been direct contact with the player or negotiations. They are vigilant, but it’s still early days.
“It’s noteworthy that there haven’t been direct talks between Alexander-Arnold and Liverpool regarding a new deal. This is why Real Madrid is monitoring the situation closely, understanding the absence of concrete negotiations.”
Alexander-Arnold made his breakthrough into Liverpool’s senior team during the 2016/17 season after honing his skills in the club’s academy.
The English international boasts an impressive trophy cabinet with Liverpool, including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, and the League Cup. With Liverpool still competing for the English top-flight title and the Europa League this season, he has the chance to add more silverware to his collection, having clinched the Carabao Cup in February.
In the current 2023/2024 season, Alexander-Arnold has contributed two goals and provided 10 assists across all competitions. He holds the record for the defender with the most assists in Premier League history, boasting 58 assists to his name.
