Former Governor of Sokoto State and current Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Tambuwal, has voiced his dismay over recent defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking after the Northwest Zonal meeting of the PDP at Hotel 17 in Kaduna, Tambuwal criticized the motivations behind the defections.
“People leave parties for certain reasons or for different reasons, but what I have been observing in the past are defections not based on the interest of the people but based on stomach infrastructure,” Tambuwal remarked. He further elaborated, “If you are talking about defecting in the interest of the people, I believe no one can go to the APC. If you are a politician with conscience, with the current policies being driven by the government of the APC and the current economic doldrum that the APC has driven Nigerians into hardship across the country and the dismal performance of the Tinubu’s administration, there is nothing attractive outside stomach infrastructure.”
Tambuwal, who urged like-minded Nigerians to unite to ensure the APC’s removal by 2027, described the current administration as “lacking focus, compassion, direction, and being riderless.”
Meanwhile, at the same meeting, the PDP in the Northwest recommitted to national leadership and the ousting of the APC. The North-West Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Bello Gwarzo, read a communique stating, “We resolve to take our rightful position at the national level and provide leadership to move the country forward.” The meeting underscored the importance of resolving internal conflicts to prepare for the 2027 elections.
“We urge all party members to be patient and heed the advice of elders to solve problems and ensure success in the 2027 election,” the communique added, emphasizing unity and strategic planning to reclaim national governance.
Notable attendees included former Kaduna State Governor Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, PDP National Youth Leader Muhammed Kadade Suleiman, and other key party figures from the region.
The PDP’s commitment to grassroots mobilization and national leadership was highlighted as crucial for the party’s resurgence in Nigerian politics.
