The Osun State Government has launched a humanitarian initiative to provide free artificial limbs to 1,000 amputees across the state.
The programme was announced in a statement shared on Sunday via the government’s official X handle, highlighting efforts under Governor Ademola Adeleke to improve the welfare of persons living with disabilities.
According to the statement, the initiative is designed to restore mobility and dignity to beneficiaries, with implementation being coordinated by the Special Adviser on Special Needs, Kamil Aransi.
Aransi disclosed that the scheme marks the first time a sitting governor in the state will provide artificial limbs free of charge to amputees.
He noted that the intervention aligns with the Osun State Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Law, 2024, signed on June 10, 2024, which guarantees key rights and benefits for persons with disabilities, including access to free health insurance.
The first phase of the programme, tagged the Measurement and Assessment Camp, is scheduled to hold from May 7 to May 9, 2026, at the SOB Conference and Events Centre, beginning at 7:30 a.m. daily.
“Beneficiaries will undergo detailed medical assessments to determine the most suitable prosthetic limbs for their needs,” Aransi said.
He urged prospective beneficiaries to register and book appointments via 08038044318 or 08137991959, noting that walk-in participation will not be permitted.
Aransi added that fittings will be carried out by accredited professionals in the following month, alongside follow-up support to ensure proper usage and functionality.
“This intervention aligns with our broader agenda to strengthen support systems for persons living with disabilities,” he said, adding that the initiative complements ongoing efforts to expand healthcare access and promote inclusion across the state.
