Liverpool FC have shattered the British transfer record, signing Newcastle United’s star striker Alexander Isak for £125 million.
The 25-year-old Swedish international, who signed a contract until June 2031, was unveiled today after completing his medical at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre.

The deal, surpassing Chelsea’s £115 million for Moises Caicedo, could rise to £130 million with add-ons.
Isak, who netted 27 goals in 42 appearances for Newcastle last season, joins Arne Slot’s Premier League champions as they aim to defend their title.
The transfer follows a tense saga, with Liverpool’s initial £110 million bid rejected in August and led to Isak, training separately and publicly criticized Newcastle, stating on Instagram: “I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.” He added, “The relationship can’t continue” and “change is in the best interests of everyone.”
Newcastle, who denied prior commitments to sell, secured £69 million striker Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart, enabling the deal. Sweden coach Jon Dahl Tomasson confirmed Isak’s focus, saying: “I spoke to Alex yesterday [Sunday] and this [Monday] morning.” Isak, who may inherit Liverpool’s No. 9 shirt, joins an attack featuring Mohamed Salah, with the club having spent over £450 million this window.
For Newcastle, the £125 million windfall offers rebuilding potential under Eddie Howe, who called the situation a “lose-lose.” For Liverpool, Isak’s arrival signals their ambition for domestic and European glory.
